Evan Turner compared himself to Jesus

Religion and sports go hand and hand, no matter how many people try to keep them separate. But they usually don’t come together in the way Evan Turner brought them together after the Celtics’ 105-87 win over the Sixers on Monday night.

Turner, the second overall pick in the 2010 Draft by Philadelphia, came off the bench for Boston on Monday, scoring 12 points, dishing out six assists, and grabbing five rebounds in 27 minutes. The Philly crowd booed Turner every time he touched the ball, a reception usually reserved for athletes who speak badly about the city or leave on bad terms.

After the game, Turner expressed shock at the crowd’s reaction, making note that before the game, the fanbase seemed to welcome him warmly.

Then, he compared the crowd’s hatred of him to the hatred that Jesus Christ received 2,000 years ago. What a perfectly acceptable jump in logic!

“I don’t worry about it anymore. I don’t want to sound super weird, but Jesus was hated too. At the end of the day, I just worry about the stuff that’s important. If it makes you happy to boo me, go ahead. I’m still happy. I put all that stuff behind me.”

That’s not super weird at all, Evan. After all, you’re an athlete – comparing yourself to Jesus is completely accurate.

Man, at least compare yourself to Scott Rolen or J.D. Drew.
