Top NBA Trades and Signings That May Affect Betting Futures

The 2019 NBA offseason has been wild, following the path of 2018 in creating craziness and intrigue across the entire league. We had PG re-up in OKC last year only to be coerced by Kawhi Leonard into requesting a trade to join him.

LeBron joined LA last year, and a year later he finally has his ideal partner in Anthony Davis to dominate with. Toronto went from contenders in adding Kawhi last summer to a fringe-playoff team in a pretty wide-open Eastern Conference.

Before we get into looking at some of the biggest trades and signings let’s glance at the NBA Championship Future Odds for the top five teams this coming season.

  • Los Angeles Clippers +300

  • Los Angeles Lakers +370

  • Milwaukee Bucks +420

  • Houston Rockets +750

  • Philadelphia 76ers +750

One of our favorite things to bet after the NBA free agency season is up is the futures. It’s a great time to “take a shot” at one of the NBA teams that made some moves.

Take advantage of these offers and place an NBA future bet or two. Now that we know who the top 5 teams are this coming season, let’s take a look at some of the biggest moves from many of these teams.

  Biggest Splash

There is no doubt that among all the craziness, it was the Clippers’ additions of stars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George that affects betting futures the most.

This is a team that overachieved a season ago, not only qualifying for the postseason but taking a healthy Warriors team to six games, including rallying from a 30-point second-half deficit to claim a Game 2 victory on the road.

And not only did they add George and Leonard, but they shored up their defense, re-signing Ivica Zubac and JaMychal Green, along with acquiring Maurice Harkless, another player who can defend multiple positions.

People also forget now that they added two bonafide superstars, that they still have 3X Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams and Montrezl Harrell, who was a force to be reckoned with coming off the Clippers bench a year ago.

The closing lineups will look different most nights, but they have their core intact and are ready to make their move. As you can see in this Yahoo article by Johnny Flores, Jr., he posts Jeff Sherman’s updated title odds.

  That Other Team

The Clippers’ counterparts in LA, the Lakers, also made a number of splashes this offseason, none bigger than the acquisition of superstar Anthony Davis. They parted with Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, and numerous first-round picks to acquire Davis. They added DeMarcus Cousins, who will be coming into the season healthy.

They added shooters in Quinn Cook and Troy Daniels, plus savvy veteran Jared Dudley, and defensive specialist Avery Bradley. They brought back Rajon Rondo (the Lakers will be the first team other than Boston that he plays more than one season for), and re-signed JaVale McGee. Not to be lost here is the signing of 2X champ Danny Green, who is a lethal shooter and elite perimeter defender.

LeBron has teamed up with a number of old rivals in Rondo and Bradley (Boston), Green (Spurs), and Cook (Warriors), and this team is, without a doubt, going to be exciting to watch.

Their title odds jumped to 5/1 (third-best in the league) after making all these moves, and they will be exciting to watch. To read more about these Lakers, and what LeBron and AD are capable of, check out this great article by Michael Grant.

  Other Contenders

Utah is unlikely to claim the title this year, but the Jazz improved significantly with the additions of Mike Conley and Bojan Bogdanovic. They also added Jeff Green and Emmanuel Mudiay, two players who are solid defenders and extremely athletic and versatile, to one-year deals. They fixed the big-man log jam by sending out Derrick Favors.

Portland added Hassan Whiteside, Nassir Little, and Kent Bazemore. Denver drafted Bol Bol and traded for the extremely athletic Jerami Grant. Houston went out and added Russell Westbrook, who should be a lot more effective than CP3 was down the stretch.

In the East, Brooklyn added Kyrie, KD, and DeAndre. Boston picked up Kemba Walker and Enes Kanter. The Sixers got Josh Richardson and Al Horford. Milwaukee added Kyle Korver, Giannis’ brother Thanasis, Wesley Matthews, and Robin Lopez.

The season is going to be a wild one, with the Clippers, Bucks, and Lakers topping the teams with the best odds to win it all.
