——————————————————————————-
The Memphis Grizzlies started the 2015 season off on a tear winning 21 out of their first 25 games. Since then the Grizzlies have cooled off only winning four out of their last 10. The biggest problem the Grizzlies are facing is consistent small forward production. Thus, the Grizzlies have most recently been linked to trade rumors involving the Celtics’ Jeff Green.
Hearing that the Jeff Green-to-Memphis trade talks are heating up. Discussions between the Celts and Grizz, I’m told, getting more serious — Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) January 9, 2015
This year, Jeff Green has averaged 17.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, shooting 43.4% from the field and 30.5% from behind the arc.
What Green provides for the Grizzlies is a more consistent offensive option.
Courtney Lee and Tony Allen have been splitting minutes at the small forward position for the Grizzlies. Allen is averaging 7.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 47.5% shooting from the field and 27.3% shooting from 3-point land. Courtney Lee has put together these stats: 11.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, 49.6% field goal shooting, and 49.4% from downtown.
While Courtney Lee and Tony Allen have their perks, a taller, more solidified small forward in Jeff Green would allow Lee and Allen to go back to their natural positions of shooting guard.
With the Western Conference bolstering their teams – most recently the Houston Rockets’ addition of Josh Smith and Corey Brewer – the Grizzlies need to get all the help they can to stay alive in the deadliest conference in the NBA.
The Grizzlies have only made it out of the first round of the playoffs twice in their six playoff appearances. With the addition of Jeff Green the Grizzlies hope to make a deep run in the hyper-competitive West.
