Report: Thomas Robinson to Sign with the Nets

Thomas Robinson has been in the NBA less than three years and the former Kansas Jayhawk will now be on his fifth NBA team once his deal with the Brooklyn Nets becomes official.

After being dealt by the Portland Trail Blazers in a deal that sent Arron Afflalo to Rip City, Robinson was immediately waived by the Denver Nuggets. The Nuggets are in the early stages of a complete makeover and Robinson, still only 23 years old, wasn’t given a chance to see if Denver was the place he could finally stick; that’s never a good sign.

Mike Mazzeo of ESPN New York is reporting Robinson’s deal with the Nets is just a 10-day contract, with the specific financial numbers not readily available at the present time.

Mazzeo is also reporting that the deal won’t be completed until Robinson officially clears waivers.

Last season, it really seemed like Portland was going to be the place Robinson could stick with, learn under LaMarcus Aldridge, play within an a system that works and a competent coaching staff and it translated onto the hardwood: Robinson averaged 14 points and 12.7 boards per 36 minutes for the Blazers last season, but those numbers have dipped and his PER has fallen to an anemic 11.

But hey, maybe Brookyln’s dysfunction and glaring need at the four will be what finally gets him on track into becoming the player we all thought he could be when he was selected as the No. 5 pick in the draft by the Sacramento Kings in 2012.
