Shawn Marion to miss two weeks due to hip strain

Cleveland Cavalier small forward Shawn Marion is set to miss two weeks because of a hip strain. It’s in his left hip and he found out after undergoing an MRI on Monday. Cavs coach David Blatt talked about why Marion hasn’t been playing recently and pointed out his hip as the main reason.

“I knew before Shawn wasn’t feeling great and that’s the reason he wasn’t playing, because he wasn’t healthy. So we really wanted to give him a chance to get through this problem as we have done on several occasions this year with other players. And I think it’s good. It’s good that he’ll take this time to rest and rehabilitate and get the treatment that he needs and to come back when he’s fully ready to play.”

The 16-year vet has been feeling discomfort in the hip since a five-game West Coast trip in late January and his minutes have been dwindling since. Marion is averaging career lows in points (4.9), rebounds (3.5), assists (0.9) and minutes (20.0) per game this season.
