The seemingly never-ending trade rumors regarding Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard rage on and this time it involves Howard being dealt to the Los Angeles Clippers. But before Clippers fans begin to rejoice about landing “Superman,” they might want to bottle that excitement.
Recently, it was reported Howard had added the Clippers to his personal list of teams he would like to be sent to. The report cited Howard’s desire to play alongside Chris Paul, and Blake Griffin.
However, according to FoxSportsWest.com, there have been no discussions between the Magic and Clippers regarding Howard:
According all the executives, the Clippers and Magic haven’t had any recent discussions about Howard being traded there and that the report wasn’t true.
And if you need further proof, Howard himself denied he didn’t add the Clips to his list of possible teams.
As much as a huge pickup this might have been for the Clippers, I’m sure the Magic would have wanted Blake Griffin in return but no way will the Clips ever let that happen. Sure DeAndre Jordan might be somewhat enticing but the Magic would rather pass on Jordan.
The Magic know that the Clippers won’t trade Griffin for Howard and Orlando has no interest in Clippers center DeAndre Jordan, according to the executives.
So where does this leave the Magic? Pretty much back to square one.
They are back to taking a wait-and-see approach and GM Otis Smith trying to field the best offers. But at what point does Magic management just accept they won’t get the perfect deal or perhaps hang on to him knowing he might leave Orlando at season’s end?
This dark-cloud hanging over the Magic has to be a distraction for the franchise as to not know what direction the team is heading despite what they say to the media.
Though he did jokingly say he wouldn’t mind playing for the Harlem Globetrotters.
