The New Orleans 
Hornets youth movement has officially begun. ESPN’s Marc Stein is reporting that the Hornets are actively trying to trade center Chris Kaman so they can begin getting more minutes for their younger bigs.
“We’ve informed Chris that we are looking into possible trades and he was understanding about the situation,” Hornets GM Dell Demps said. “We’re working together on this.”
Demps added that Kaman has been incredibly professional since arriving in New Orleans as part of the Chris Paul trade and that the team and Kaman’s people were working together to find a suitable trade partner. Head coach Monty Williams said he spoke to Kaman and the veteran center understands the Willams wants to get playing time for Jason Smith, Gustavo Ayon and Al-Farouq Aminu.
Statistically Kaman is having his worst season since his second year in the league, but he’s also only averaging around 23 minutes a game.
Once Stein broke the news, Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted the Rockets, Pacers, Jazz and Spurs were among the teams believed to be interested in Kaman. Woj added that in the past, the Hornets had been asking for a draft pick, expiring contract and a young player in return for Kaman. My guess is now they’ll be looking for one or two of those three items. Kaman is in the final year of his deal that pays him $14 million, which also complicates trading Kaman. Whoever gets Kaman will get a nice post player and some awesome cap space this summer.
