Curry to defend Skills Challenge title

Stephen CurryThe moment you have all been waiting for is here. Monday the NBA announced the competitors for the Taco Bell Skills Challenge. How many of you remember who won it last year? Give it a minute.

Time’s up.

Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry is back to defend his title and he has got some the NBA’s best point guards looking to unseat him. Here is the full list of competitors:

-Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors

-Kyrie Irving, Cleveland Cavaliers

-Tony Parker, San Antonio Spurs

-John Wall, Washington Wizards

-Russell Westbrook, Oklahoma City Thunder

-Deron Williams, New Jersey Nets

I haven’t seen Vegas’ odds on this yet, but if I had to guess I would say Curry as the reigning champion is the favorite, along with Deron Williams who won in 2008.

Guys seem to always get tripped up making the chest pass through the ring. I could absolutely see John Wall and Russell Westbrook messing up on the passes by trying to rush through everything. That wouldd be so Russell Westbrook and John Wall. Kyrie Irving is the wild card.

I’m not sure how serious some of the veterans take this, so we could see the combination of Irving’s skills and his giving a crap about the Skills Challenge giving him an edge.

Lastly, how in the world does the Skills Challenge get away with having more rounds and competitors than the Slam Dunk contest? Can we get two less point guards running around some cones and a couple more dunkers? Can we trade Russell Westbrook to the Slam Dunk Contest? Are any of these things possible.

The Skills Challenge is part of NBA All-Star Saturday Night, which kicks off from Orlando at 7 p.m. EST.
