The headline pretty much ended any possible suspense, but it appears Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin’s knee hasn’t healed much since he injured it during Game Five of the first round of the playoffs versus the Nuggets.
Still, he says he’s ready to go for Game One against the San Antonio Spurs and is operating between 75 and 80 percent. Initially you’d probably say that’s more good news than bad news, but then there’s this comment Clippers’ head coach Vinny Del Negro gave the Associated Press and others.
“Del Negro said Griffin’s injury is the kind that might sideline him for a week if this were the regular season. Del Negro said a decision on Griffin won’t be made until Tuesday.”
This doesn’t bode well for the Clippers facing a well rested Spurs team. Having a less-than-healthy Griffin will only take away from exploiting the Spurs lack of athletic bigs. Tim Duncan, Tiago Splitter, Boris Diaw and the rest of the Spurs’ bigs will have their hands full against Griffin and DeAndre Jordan but with Blake not at full strength, expect San Antonio to attack him often to test that bum knee.
This isn’t how the Clippers would want to come into the Alamo City with their All-Star about to face the mighty Spurs considering Chris Paul is also banged up heading into Game One.
