VIDEO: 49ers’ Vernon Davis should keep his day job

One of the best trends of the last decade or so in the NFL is the increasing number of college basketball players that have been converted to tight ends.  It started with Tony Gonzalez, then Antonio Gates, now Jimmy Graham from the Saints.  Right in the middle of the athletic basketball playing tight end explosion, there was San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis.

Davis is one of the better tight ends in the league and amazingly, he actually played football in college.  But hasn't stopped Davis from pretending to hoop every once in a while.  Sunday, Davis' hoop dream against fell flat after a touchdown score against the Green Bay Packers. Behold the upright dunk fail! (H/T to Pete Blackburn of the Nosebleeds)

This has to be a SportsCenter Not Top 10.  Here's where Vern went wrong.  He wasn't 100% in on the dunking celebration.  Did you see the slight hesistation?  If you're going to be in on throwing it down over the goal post, you've gotta be all the way in.  Getting rim checked is not a good look.  However, helping your team beat the Packers for the first time in Green Bay in 22 years is a good look.  Overall, I think Davis gets a pass on this because I'm pretty sure he can get up to throw that down.  But if he does it again… Oh boy is he in trouble with the internet.
