Matt Bonner gained somewhat cult status when he dubbed himself with the nickname: "Red Mamba."
Bonner's 3-point shooting, quirky shooting style and personality really endeared him to fans all over the league — not just the ones who watch him daily in San Antonio or the ones who remember his personality well in Toronto where he was famous for his quest for the perfect sandwich. Red Mamba shirts popped up all over the league as he campaigned to reach the 3-Point Contest at All-Star Weekend.
The Red Mamba is more than that though. He is a defender of justice, keeper of the peace and apparent time traveler too.
Matt Bonner was among the attendees at the Alamo City Comic Con in San Antonio. He showed up in a Red Mamba t-shirt, a cape and a mask to conceal his true identity. He signed autographs as this news report from San Antonio shows (h/t Jeff Garcia of Project Spurs):
