Wade Unsure About Return To Team USA

While pre-Olympic tournaments will be held in Lithuania and Argentina this summer, the USA Men’s Olympic Basketball Team will rest easy knowing their passport to the 2012 London games is stamped after Team USA took gold at the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey last summer.

However, will the 2012 team be without Miami Heat’s Dwayne Wade? Perhaps.

“I’m like in the middle,” he said. “I’ll be in the middle for a while. We’ll see. “It depends on a lot of things. It depends on health, obviously. It depends on if I have a position the team needs me to play, etcetera. So we’ll see. I’ll be honored if they want me to.”

“I’ll be one of the older guys on the team if I decided to play, at 30,” Wade said. “So I have to sit down and really think about it. But right now I’m just in the middle of it. That’s so far away from right now. I’ve got a lot of things to focus on before I get there.”

Wade does have a point. He will be up in age and if Miami does make another deep playoff run next season – if there is a next season – Wade could pass on wearing the red, white and blue.

However, there will be plenty of other talent to take his spot should Wade not rejoin Team USA. For example, Tyreke Evans could be quality replacement for Wade.

But if Wade decides not to play for Team USA, will other NBA stars follow suit? Players like Carmelo Anthony, Jason Kidd, LeBron James, Tayshaun Prince, and Kobe Bryant were on the 2008 “Redeem Team” and could be feeling the same as Wade.

If so, the 2012 team may be in for a overhaul.
