Yes, the Knicks missed the Playoffs. Yes, their season was a complete mess and total disaster. Yes, there is nothing positive about their season.
Except this.
The New York Knicks won the 2013-14 Championship Belt.
What is the Championship Belt? It is the simple idea, borrowed from professional wrestling and boxing, that to be the champ and take the belt, you have to beat the champ. The team that ended the season with the belt? That would be the Knicks.
To get the belt, you have to face the team and beat the team that currently holds the belt. It started with the defending champion Heat on opening night. Miami lost the belt in the team’s second game against Philadelphia. Yes, the 76ers held the belt from Oct. 30 until Nov. 2. Unbelievable, right?
New York took its title reign on April 13 when the team defeated Chicago and held it through the end of the season by winning its final three games.
The Knicks were 6-3 in championship games this year. The Warriors actually were in the most “title games” with 16 appearances and a 12-4 record. Golden State led the league with 12 wins in championship games, defending the title nine times. The Spurs had 11 title game wins.
So take that for what you will. The real prize is still two weeks away from being awarded.
