Report: Minnesota set to trade Kevin Love by late August

It seems the Timberwolves are set in trading forward Kevin Love by late August according to the Pioneer Press.

The Timberwolves say now that they expect to trade disgruntled all-star Kevin Love and that a deal is expected Aug. 23 or Aug. 24.

“I’m saying it’s most likely because Kevin has made it pretty clear that that’s what he wants to do,” Wolves owner Glen Taylor told the Pioneer Press.

“I think when you move somebody like Kevin, who’s been an all-star, that you’ve got to get a number of players on your team that have the potential of replacing him,” Taylor said. “Flip (Saunders, Wolves president) has looked at this team and offensively, he’s got a pretty good team. Defensively, it’s got to be better, so I think that’s where some of the areas will be replaced.”

The Cavs seem to be Love’s destination considering LeBron James, and Kyrie Irving would be great pieces to surround Love and give him a legit chance at having a deep playoff run. Something he has yet to experience in Minnesota.

However, the Bulls and Warriors are likely in the hunt for Love’s services.

The Bulls have added Pau Gasol and Derrick Rose will be back on the court which makes Chicago a top team in the East. This scenario would be enticing for Love. The Warriors as well are a young up-and-coming team but play in the competitive West and have yet to make significant noise in the postseason.

Considering the Cavs seem to be the odds on favorite to land Kevin, Cleveland would have to give up the NBA’s 2014 top draft pick – Andrew Wiggins. Trading Wiggins (an unproven rookie) for a proven vet like Love is a no-brainer.

Should Love join the Cavs, they would have a formidable trio with James, Irving and Love. The trio might arguably be the best “Big 3” in the league but they would need time to develop chemistry.

Factor in Wiggins’ Cavs jersey has been discontinued on the NBA online store and it seems something might be in the works at getting Love to Cleveland.
