The Cleveland Cavaliers are playing some incredibly horrific defense and it is a huge reason, if not the main reason, they are only 5-4.
The Cavaliers are near the bottom of the league in many major defensive categories like defensive rating (26th allowing 110.8 points per 100 possessions) and opponent points per game (24th allowing 104.3). They also give up an effective field goal percentage 53.6 percent, which is bad enough for 28th in the league.
We are talking about a team that has given up more than 100 points in all but two games so far this season and just refuses to stop anyone.
The worst part is that they do not finish off those defensive plays either, only grabbing 30.4 defensive boards a game. That is 28th in the league and they do not help themselves on offense either, only pulling down about 11 offensive rebounds a game — 23rd in the league.
Continuing this team, The Cavs do not really turn people over either — only 15 times a game — and we all know if they get more of those, then we get more alleys and high flying dunks. This team should want to force more turnovers for that reason alone!
It does not get any easier either as the Cavs will play the Spurs, at the Wizards, and at home against the Raptors in the next four days. Those are all playoff teams and they are top-10 defensive teams, so perhaps the Cavs can learn a thing or two this week.
Otherwise, disappointment and struggle will continue for this supposed super team.
