You remember what happened to former NBA player Shawn Kemp after the 1999 lockout was over?
Well in case you forgot, Kemp, the once svelte power forward, came back from the lockout only to look more like “Kool-Aid Man” than the “Reign Man.” In other words, he got really fat!
With that being said, could Denver Nuggets’ Al Harrington be coming back to the Mile High City needing an extended training camp? Perhaps if he keeps eating a ton of calories like he recently did in Las Vegas.
Harrington figured since a lockout is in effect, the best thing to do was to forget about keeping in shape and partake in the Bugsy Challenge which means he had 45 minutes to eat a 4 1/2 pound burger.
On Saturday, Denver Nuggets player Al Harrington took the Bugsy Challenge at Burger Joint at Flamingo Las Vegas. The Bugsy Challenge consists of a burger with six one-third-pound burger patties, six types of cheese (American, cheddar, pepper jack, fresh house-made mozzarella, Swiss and panko-crusted deep-fried provolone), chorizo, sautéed mushrooms, black and tan onion rings, three strips of applewood smoked bacon, three strips of cayenne peppered bacon and a fried egg, all oozing with Burger Joint’s special pink peppercorn aioli.
This massive burger is accompanied by a cast iron skillet packed with two whole potatoes cut in wedges and deep fried, then smothered in cheddar cheese sauce, three-cheese blend, crumbled bacon, sliced green onions and topped with two strips of cayenne peppered bacon.
Now with the “no contact” rule in place during the lockout, the Nuggets trainers must be thrilled to hear about this knowing they can’t do a damn thing about it.
I won’t lie to you. I’m chomping at the bit to try this. I mean look at it. Sure it’s death-on-a-plate but I’ve just got to try it. But then again I am not a highly-paid, professional athlete so I can indulge.
So heads up Nuggs fans. Should you see a huge shadow cast on the court once the season starts, it’s not the the lights dimming. It’s probably Harrington checking into the game.
And heads up Nugget training staff. Make sure you got plenty of water, EMS on stand-by, P90X DVDs, and a defibrillator handy. You might need it.
Oh and in case you were wondering, Al did not succeed. The burger won.
