The Dallas Mavericks and their fans will most certainly be looking forward to opening night as the franchise celebrates their first NBA title.
Fans will be cheering, the championship banner will be unveiled, and the Mavs will begin their defense of their crown. Also, the Mavs’ players will eventually get their much-deserved rings seeing how Dallas won’t hand out them out on opening night versus the Miami Heat.
And speaking of said rings, it seems some players wanted owner Mark Cuban to spend $200,000 per ring! Luckily for Cuban, the NBA and David Stern stepped in to stop this very expensive bill.
See the NBA apparently has a policy limiting how much a team can spend on championship rings and 200k might have been a tad more than what’s allowed.
But then again, this is Cuban we are talking about. The guy doesn’t know the meaning of being financially prudent. So if the NBA didn’t have such a policy, I am sure you might have seen Jason Kidd sporting a 200 grand ring, a 600 grand jewel-encrusted goblet, complete with matching 24 karat gold championship water bottle.
All kidding aside, when Cuban thinks something is expensive, then you know it’s expensive!
