Report: Ellis Trade Talks Heating Up

Trade talks involving Golden State Warriors’ Monta Ellis are heating up as the Warriors are trying to send Ellis to a contending team according to CBSSports.com:

The Warriors and representatives for Monta Ellis are working cooperatively to see if a trade to a contending team can be arranged, a deal that would likely happen around the NBA draft later this month, a person with knowledge of the discussions told CBSSports.com.

“It’s pretty hot,” the person familiar with the talks said.

The report also states that Portland, Los Angeles Lakers, Atlanta, Chicago and Philadelphia are the teams rumored to be very interested in Ellis. There is also the trade rumor between the Warriors and the 76ers involving Andre Iguodala which seems to still be on the table.

Ellis averaged 24.1 points and 5.6 assists last season for Golden State. He also has two more years on his contract at $11 million each year.

With new coach Mark Jackson more than likely to stress defense, and having two offensive minded guards – Stephen Curry the other – may not fit what Jackson wants.

A team like the Bulls, would have a devastating duo of Derrick Rose and Ellis, while the Blazers would have a perfect perimeter player to go along with LaMarcus Aldridge in the paint.
