Team Kentucky, Dominican National Team To Face Off

NBA fans are in the midst of the offseason and a lockout which means seeing their favorite professional teams and players on the hardwood is scarce right now. While small, pro-am type games do pop up from time to time which feature some NBA players, fans are clamoring for more.

The much-hyped Goodman-Drew league next month will bring in the crowd, but there’s another event on the horizon that is sure to draw the masses and especially draw NBA fans thirsting for basketball action.

Next month begins the 2011 FIBA Americas tournament in Argentina which will feature the Dominican national team led by John Calipari.

Calipari will be looking to prep his Dominican team for the tournament in the only way he knows how, call upon some of his ex-Wildcats.

Team Kentucky will face the Dominican national team in an exhibition game August 15 in Rupp Arena which will surely be a fun game to catch.

Team Kentucky will feature a who’s-who of ex-Wildcats – John Wall, Rajon Rondo, Tayshaun Prince, DeMarcus Cousins, Jodie Meeks, Nazr Mohammed, Eric Bledsoe and Keith Bogans.

However, the Dominican squad does sport some NBA’ers as well – Al Horford, Charlie Villanueva and Francisco Garcia.

Even though this is supposed to be a friendly matchup, you know it’s going to be one intense game. And although Team Kentucky does have a wee bit of an edge, this should make for a fantastic game.

I mean who doesn’t want to see Rondo face Brian Estrella or Cousins go one-on-one with Marlon Martinez? Am I right? Hello? Anyone?

OK yeah, maybe the questions should be by how much will Team Kentucky win by and what did the Dominican squad do to deserve this?
