The Wait Is Over Minnesota, Rubio Signs

The Minnesota Timberwolves have reached an agreement with their 2009 NBA draftee Ricky Rubio according to Yahoo! Sports:

After two years of waiting, flamboyant Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio has agreed to join the Minnesota Timberwolves for the 2011-’12 season, league sources told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday night.

Rubio reached a deal on Tuesday, sources said.

This was a smart move on Rubio’s part. He now can get under the current CBA rules for rookie pay ($3.5 million) before any changes are made to the new CBA which could include a reduced rookie pay scale.

Moreover, Rubio has not been playing all that great which made him such a hot commodity prior to being selected by Minnesota. He has averaged 6.5 points and 3.2 assists in 20 games for Regal Barcelona. Also consider he suffered a foot injury which affected him on the court.

With Minnesota having the second overall selection in the upcoming NBA Draft, the rise of Kevin Love, and now Rubio signing, things might be looking up for Minnesota. Let’s hope they just make the right decisions.
