From playing overseas to football, it seems many locked out NBA players are looking for other outlets to pass the time as the CBA negotiations push forward.
For Phoenix Suns’ Steve Nash, the offseason has also given him a chance to hit the soccer field with the team he serves as part-owner, the Vancouver Whitecaps.
But if you think Nash might be considering making the move from the hardwood of the NBA to the grass of a soccer field, think again.
Nash took in a Whitecaps’ practice to simply stay in shape and get a feel for the players on the roster.
“By the way I played today, they’re not going to have me come back for a while,” Nash quipped following a 75-minute practice under coach Tommy Soehn.
“It was a great opportunity for me not just to kick the ball with the guys but to get to know them a little bit,” Nash told a scrum of reporters at Swangard. “It’s fun to kind of get the temperature of the club and see how the guys’ spirits are.
As for the NBA lockout, Nash isn’t too optimistic the season will start on time.
You know if any NBA player could make it in another professional sport, such as soccer, during this lockout would be Nash. He is an avid soccer player, hosts an annual charity soccer event in New York City and whether it be a soccer ball or basketball, Nash certainly has some skill.
