The New York Knicks were already getting blown out by the Miami Heat in Game 1 of their 7-game series. To add injury to insult, Iman Shumpert left the game with a non-contact knee injury that looked just as bad as Derrick Rose’s earlier in the day.
Shumpert was dribbling up the floor with the Knicks down 24 halfway through the 3rd quarter. He just planted awkwardly and immediately lost the ball and fell to the floor grabbing his knee, clearly in an extreme amount of pain. Shumpert was carried to the locker room, he didn’t want to put any weight on his leg at all.
The rookie guard from Georgia Tech has been a pleasant surprise for the Knicks. He’s already become one of the best defenders in the NBA and was 7th in the league in steals this year.
ESPN’s Lisa Salters reported that Shumpert was leaving the arena and headed to an area hospital for an MRI.
After a poor performance in the first game of the series, the Knicks clearly can’t afford to lose Iman Shumpert, but with the way he left the game, that may be the case.
