Hornets’ Lopez undergoes knee surgery

The newest member of the Hornets, Robin Lopez, underwent successful knee surgery to correct a tear of the medial meniscus in his left knee.

The surgery was performed by Dr. El Attrache at the Kerlan Jobe Clinic in Los Angeles. The team also said in its statement that Lopez is expected to be fully healthy for the start of the regular season.

Lopez was acquired in a sign-and-trade with the Suns but even with the addition of Lopez, New Orleans still has a huge drop off after Davis.

The Hornets' frontcourt currently is made up of Davis, Lopez, and Jason Smith. As mentioned before, after Davis, it appears there's a drop off in talent. Davis will be a huge threat in the paint offensively and defensively but Lopez and Smith won't be able to duplicate or come near to what Davis will bring on the court. Both are scrappy players, and will do the dirty work, but Davis will need help in the paint.

Lopez averaged 5.4 points and 3.3 rebounds while Smith averaged 9.9 points and 4.9 rebounds last season.
