James would welcome Fisher to Miami

After the Houston Rockets waived NBA veteran point guard Derek Fisher, could the Miami Heat be Fisher’s next destination? If it is up to LeBron James, then Miami would be the place for Fisher and doesn’t see an issue adding the former NBA champion.

“I don’t know what our plans are but I don’t see it as a bad fit it if happens. What we have we’re comfortable with, but he could fit anyone’s team because of his leadership and his commitment to winning.”

Fisher would provide Miami with a veteran presence, championship pedigree, and floor leadership but considering he is averaging career lows in scoring (since the 1997-98 season) and shooting percentage, he might do more harm than good for the Heat.

Moreover, playing in the Eastern Conference would mean him being matched up with younger, quicker guards on playoff teams Miami could face such as Derrick Rose, Rajon Rondo, Jameer Nelson, and Darren Collison. Now imagine Fisher having to guard against one of those point guards in the playoffs should he be called upon to do so. A nightmare situation for the Heat since it is clear Fisher has lost a step or two in recent years.

Granted, he is a player who can hit the clutch shot but if Miami wants to head into the playoffs with players who can contribute steadily and not be a liability, then Fisher would not be the player.

Also, Miami really should focus on shoring up the paint and add a legit big man over another point guard. Currently, Mario Chalmers is playing well this season and rookie Norris Cole, albeit has hit the “rookie wall” lately, would be a preferred tandem for Miami.

Veteran presence is great, and a valued asset for any title contender but Miami has that with Dwayne Wade who has been to the NBA Finals before and the Heat should look to him for guidance.
