On one hand, Iman Shumpert having to miss the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest is a good thing because it means he isn’t a shoe in to win because all the Knicks fans were definitely going to make him the winner as long as he made all three of his dunks.
On the other hand, it really sucks that Iman Shumpert isn’t going to be in the Slam Dunk Contest and here’s why. Slam Online is reporting that Shump Shump was planning on wheeling out the couch that Jeremy Lin slept on his first couple of weeks he was a Knick.
“He was going to help me out,’’ Shumpert said. ‘Once my knee was so sore, I started thinking about it: ‘Am I going to be able to jump over the couch?’ All kinds of things to think about.”
It’s not jumping over a Kia, or is it? Look, jumping over a couch and having someone throw an alley-oop is funny enough but what if he jumped over the couch long ways? If you can jump over the length of a couch, you deserve to win a dunk contest. Jeremy Evans, Shumpert’s replacement, can jump over people so when know he can do some cool stuff. We also know Derrick Williams is going to come up with some cool ways for Ricky Rubio to get him the ball.
I’m looking forward to the dunk contest, but not as much as I would with if a guy with the nickname “Shump Shump” was trying to hop over a couch with the NBA’s biggest surprise maybe ever throwing him a ball.
