As the NBA world awaits to hear what the Orlando Magic and their all-star center Dwight Howard decide, one this is for sure, head coach Stan Van Gundy could care less if he is fired.
Of course Van Gundy was referring to the report that Orlando, in a effort to convice Howard to remain, will give him the power to decide the fate of Van Gundy and GM Otis Smith. Since then, the Magic have refuted this report, but prior to this, Van Gundy made it loud and clear — he doesn’t care about getting fired (h/t cbssports.com).
As said before, this reported power given to Howard has been refuted but you got to appreciate Van Gundy’s stance. For a franchise to turn over this kind of power to a player is just crazy and would have set a terrible precedent. If it was indeed true, project into the future star players asking for that concession and citing Howard’s situation.
