Writer-Palooza: Nerd alert

Crossover Chronicles is a relatively new blog, so we decided it was a good idea to introduce you to the crew. We’re doing that in a new feature called “Writer-Palooza.”  For the next few days, we will feature one writer, introducing him to you via an original piece, his favorite basketball video, and a wildcard post on any topic that he wants.

Today we feature Sr. Editor Jeff Garcia. You can find him on Twitter here.

OK I admit, sometimes keeping up with the NBA on a daily basis can become droll. It is as if I can already know what the TV talking heads are going to say during a broadcast.

Lamar Odom is playing? Expect a reference to his marriage to Khloe Kardashian. An NBA player is returning to his former team as a member of the opposing team? Expect that fact to be mentioned season after season.

Yes it can be mind numbing at times, and I do need a break from the NBA. Luckily, the 2012 summer movie lineup reads like something out of a dream for me.

The summer is fast approaching, and as you will about to find out, I am going to drop a huge nerd-bomb on this site.

From G.I. Joe Retaliation to the new Bond flick Skyfall, I am so looking forward to getting my popcorn and soda ready for my top-three anticipated flicks for this summer.

The Avengers

This is going to be huge in any way you look at it. It is either going to be a huge success or failure. A lot is riding on this venture. The Hulk, Ironman, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow, and Nick Fury will be taking on Loki and his army. If done right, this could possibly open up a path for DC to trot out a Justice League flick.

And so far, the trailer has given one of the best come-back lines sure to make comic book fans geek out: “We have a Hulk!”

The Amazing Spiderman

So those Toby Maguire Spiderman flicks kind of sucked. Well maybe not the first one, but, as a whole, it could have been much better. Enter The Amazing Spiderman!

I will admit, I was not looking forward to this new take on the series but, as the latest trailer shows, this isn’t going to be your friendly, neighborhood Spiderman flick.

The Dark Knight Rises

This will be the end of one of the best comic book-related series of movies ever to come out. What Christopher Nolan has done with the Batman saga is beyond the expectations any fan could have imagined. He took a character, based his world into reality, and gave us a gritty and brutal, yet sad face to Bruce Wayne and his journey to becoming the Caped Crusader.

Granted, following in the steps of The Dark Knight with the phenomenal acting job the late Heath Leger gave to the Joker will be a tough but if any director can pull it off is Nolan.

As Batman is set to face Bane (the only villain to ever defeat Batman by breaking his back) this last chapter in Nolan’s take on Batman can only be described a potentially epic.

OK, now back to basketball…
