Writer-Palooza: Video – Robinson’s quadruple-double

Crossover Chronicles is a relatively new blog, so we decided it was a good idea to introduce you to the crew. We’re doing that in a new feature called “Writer-Palooza.”  For the next few days, we will feature one writer, introducing him to you via an original piece, his favorite basketball video, and a wildcard post on any topic that he wants.

Today we feature Sr. Editor Jeff Garcia. You can find him on Twitter here.

The quadruple-double.

An elusive feat in the NBA as only four players in league history have ever accomplished it. One of those players was San Antonio Spurs legend David Robinson.

“The Admiral” accomplished this rare feat against the Detroit Pistons in 1994 and was the last NBA player to do so. Robinson dropped 34 points, 10 blocks, 10 assists, and 10 rebounds.

Now the reason I like this video is the powerful reminder to all NBA fans of how great he was. Many point to Patrick Ewing, Hakeem Olajuwon, Shaquille O’Neal as some of the best ever centers in recent memory but Robinson gets overlooked.

His list of basketball accomplishments reads like something only dreams are made of. No seriously. Look for yourself and prepare to be amazed.

Yet despite these accolades, he is rarely mentioned much like he was during his playing days. Even today anytime a discussion of who was the best center during the 1990’s, it seems to come down to Ewing and Olajuwon. Alright, I admit “Dream” was just a one-man wrecking crew but Robinson dominated as well. And yes, D-Rob got annihilated by Hakeem in the 1995 playoffs , it still shouldn’t cast a shadow on what Robinson did on the court before he retired a champion in 2003.

Check out “The Admiral” in action and recording his quad-dub versus the Pistons. As you watch the footage, just imagine what he would have done in this era of the NBA.
