You know when your documentary trailer begins with a voice over and up close interview with the President of the United States, Barack Obama, you’ve got some serious cache.
That’s what we can come to expect from this film on Steve Nash — titled “Nash: The Documentary” — that is in the works and set for release, depending on some funding from the general public.
Directors Michael Hamilton and Corey Ogilvie are currently in the process of securing funding to complete the project and recently launched a Kickstarter campaign — complete with trailer — to raise $110,000 and put out a film that not only highlights Nash’s accomplishments on the floor but his character and philanthropy off of the floor.
"I think you're measured not just by your skill or your fame or your wealth, but by your character," President Obama said in the trailer about the Los Angeles Lakers point guard.
"I think by that standard, Steve is going to do very well."
Steve Nash is already considered one of the best point guards of this era of the NBA.
But it's not just what he does on the court that makes him so well-liked. From showing off his soccer skills at the annual soccer event in New York City to his knack for directing and comedy, he is quite an interesting fellow.
Now you can get to know Nash a whole lot more in an upcoming documentary aptly titled, "Nash".
In the documentary, Steve gave the director Michael Hamilton full access to his life including interviews with President Barack Obama, Ron Howard, David Beckham, Snoop Lion, Doug Ellin, David Blaine, David Stern, Wilson and NBA players Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki, Tony Parker, Yao Ming and Baron Davis.
the heart of the project centers on Nash and how, “one man’s vision, drive and determination helped shape a global brand on and off the court while staying true to himself and those around him.”
"This project has given me a front-row seat to the never-dull but sometimes very private life of Steve," Hamilton said.
"His prowess and work ethic on the court speaks for itself, but now fans will get a rare glance into what drives one of the world's most influential people off the court."
Hamilton is also forthright about Nash’s role in the film and wants to make sure viewers know, Nash footing the bill is not part of the documentary process. Hence the Kickstarter and reaching out to the public for their (financial) support.
“Receiving Steve’s permission to document his life in the film was paramount in getting this project off the ground. However, even though Steve is the main focus of the film, in NO way is he or his production company involved creatively or in the day to day of making this film,” Hamilton writes in the Kickstarter campaign.
“As a true documentarian having your subject involved any way financially goes against all documentary film making. It was our goal to make this film as authentic as possible and didn’t feel we could do that if our subject was involved in any way other than getting his permission.”
Here is to hoping this project can be completed. “Nash: The Documentary” would be a must-see.
