Mexico City is set to host the Spurs-Timberwolves game as part of the NBA's Global Games but before tipoff or any of the hoopla was to begin, the arena went up in smoke. . . literally.
An electrical fire which started in the elevator caused the arena to fill with smoke leading to players being evacuated. The game was eventually suspended.
Check out video of the scene and from the looks of it, the smoke was concentrated in the lower bowl, court area.
The NBA announced that the game has been postponed and will be rescheduled to be played at the Target Center in Minneapolis (the game is a Timberwolves home game) at a later date.
