With the Nets hiring Jason Kidd as their new head coach, there's one less NBA team still looking for one. But still the Clippers, Nuggets, and Grizzlies are left without a sideline leader as the NBA Finals comes to a close and the offseason officially begins. An offseason in which all three of those contending Western Conference are going to have to hire a new coach of their own. And although he denied interest in any potential jobs earlier in the playoffs, Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers may be on the market as a possible coaching candidate.
Boston had a tough go-of-it this past season, losing to the Knicks in the 1st round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs without Rajon Rondo, whose knee injury cost him the whole playoffs and much of the regular season. Stalwarts Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett showed signs of aging while the younger supporting cast was inconsistent, as some days Brandon Bass and Avery Bradley could combine for 40 points and, on others, barely break 10.
But even with all the other circumstances surrounding this team, it's clear that it needs to be rebuilt in some fashion in order to bring the Celtics back to relevancy in the NBA. What's unclear is how Boston plans to go through with said rebuild and if Rivers is even up to sticking around the Celtics to see them return to their playoff-dominant form from a few years back. He may, instead, choose a better team like the Clippers or Grizzlies and attempt to regain confidence in fans and players of one of the league's best teams.

Obviously, Doc doesn't want to retire just yet and wants another chance for a championship, a goal this Celtics team would be hard-pressed to accomplish. Maybe that's why a team like the Clippers or Grizzlies makes more sense for someone like Rivers.
