Video: Goodbye Hugo T. Hornet

Many NBA fans were probably introduced to Hugo the Hornet in editions of NBA Jam or NBA Showtime video games. The Hornets mascot was a perfect high flyer for the video games.

As far as NBA mascots go, Hugo is one of the best in the NBA. Who else could make a Hornet not scary to a kid?

The Hornets played their final home game as the Hornets on Sunday in a 107-89 loss. And that meant it was the final game for Hugo the Hornet. The New Orleans Hornets will become the New Orleans Pelicans. That does not leave much room for a Hornet.

So Hugo the Hornet said good bye Sunday as the Hornets closed their season at home. Next year the Hornets will have a new logo, new colors and a new mascot.

Hugo the Hornet might have a future in Charlotte if the Bobcats become the Hornets. That, of course, leaves Rufus out in the cold.

Right now though, Hugo is homeless and one of the NBA's best mascots is on a permanent vacation now that the season is over.
