Jay-Z is becoming quite the sports mogul and a big player on the sports scene.
Now with his ambitions of becoming an NBA agent, or at least associated with an agency, he has to sell his 1/15 of one percent interest in the Nets. Jay-Z is spreading his tentacles after he became the face of the Nets move to Brooklyn and one of the people that made being a Nets fan all of a sudden extremely cool.
Jay-Z had a hand in designing the Nets' uniforms, logo and color scheme. Again, Jay-Z made the Nets cool for the first time … probably ever.
Jay-Z's day job (I think) is as rapper extraordinaire. And his new single "Open Letter" lashes out at some of Jay-Z's lyrics.
Among those lyrics is this bar (h/t Tom Lorenzo of Nets Daily):
Would have brought the Nets to Brooklyn for free, except I made millions off of you f-cking dweebs; I still own the building, I'm still keeping my seats.
I do not quite understand where Jay-Z is coming from or who he is going after. Neither did a lot of people when this was released.
Many hypothesized it was former Nets owner Bruce Ratner who struggled to get the team to Brooklyn and was the guy who got Jay-Z involved. Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News reported that the reference might be to those laughing at his small ownership stake in the Nets, yet how visible he has become as the Nets' "owner."
It appears the song is an "Open Letter" (if you will) to his haters.
I guess only the artist really knows what he was trying to say. Jay-Z is on to his next big endeavor and next big venture. Jay-Z's new agency could very well be a big player in the future. But we will say.
Nice use of the word "dweeb" however.
