When it comes to having that killer instinct or competitive edge, NBA legend Michael Jordan had that and more. So when it comes to his Bobcats deliberately losing (or tanking) this season, MJ will have none of that despite the upcoming NBA Draft class touted to be one of the best in years.
The Bobcats are not likely to challenge for the NBA crown (or even a playoff spot in the East) this season, however, Jordan makes it loud and clear… there will be no tanking by his team.
The Bobcats owner scoffed at the idea Friday, telling The Associated Press, “I don’t know if some teams have thought of that. That’s not something that we would do. I don’t believe in that.”
He then laughed heartily and said, “If that was my intention I never would have paid (free agent) Al Jefferson $13 million a year.”
Jordan has a good point about paying Jefferson the big bucks but he also cannot state his team will tank considering that be against NBA rules. However, a promising player like Andrew Wiggins would do the team well since they have never had a franchise-type player.
Though teams that have had "bad" seasons or were accused of tanking did have a nice return. The Spurs lost David Robinson to injury heading into the 1997 NBA Draft and were able to snag the No. 1 pick overall which resulted in Tim Duncan.
