Cleveland is bidding on the 2018 All-Star Game. Who else should go all in?

The Cavaliers are all in on the All-Star Game now that LeBron is back, and the Cavs are relevant again. They have officially put their name in the bidding hat for 2018 while the Portland Trailblazers and Charlotte Hornets have done the same.

The 2016 and 2017 All-Star Games are set with 2017’s expected to be announced at the beginning of 2015. In the meantime, here are some of the other cities that should bid on the game because we’d like to see some ASG action there.

1. Indianapolis, Indiana

Charlotte Hornets v Indiana Pacers

Hello! It is the Hoosier state! This is a no-brainer. The fans will be there right in the heart of basketball country and they haven’t hosted since 1985 and it wasn’t even in the Fieldhouse so it’s about time the ASG comes back to Indiana.

2. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

San Antonio Spurs v Oklahoma City Thunder - Game Six

This seems like another no-brainer as the Thunder and the state of Okahoma have never hosted the game. One of the NBA’s most rabid and growing fan bases seems like a good place to have an All-Star Game wouldn’t you say?

3. Memphis, Tennessee

Los Angeles Lakers v Memphis Grizzlies

I know for those of you that have been there, this may not seem like a very logical choice. You are probably saying, “Ben, don’t be stupid. The inside of this arena is not that great and it’s the exact definition of don’t judge a book by its cover because if you did it, then you would think this was the coolest arena ever.”

Well let me tell you something. There will be plenty of time to renovate the seats and make it pretty, but this arenas embodies the “Grit N Grind” mentality of this team and so that does not bother me as much. It is also one of the few cities in the NBA that has never hosted the ASG and can you imagine the parties on Beale Street every night that weekend? Yeah, you forgot about that, I know.

Those are my top three choices, but I am sure you all have other places you think deserve an All-Star bid.

About Benjamin Bornstein

A University of Florida grad, Ben likes basketball way more than he should. He gets excited about a Timberwolves-Kings game so that should tell you how intense the passion is for him. His favorite teams are the Spurs and Magic because he likes to be on both ends of the winning spectrum.
