The 2013 NBA Draft class has been underwhelming to say the least, but there is one player hoping to change that view.
Kelly Olynyk has started the year on an absolute tear — he is shooting 60 percent and an even more absurd 50 percent from downtown.
There were a lot of guys who were expected to contribute right away and did like Victor Oladipo, Trey Burke and the Greek Freek, Giannis Antetokounmpo. For the long-haired Canadian, it has been a quiet and steady path to getting some recognition that he so rightly deserves.
Olynyk shot a respectable 46.6 percent last year and a solid 35.1 percent playing the power forward position. You might ask how he could possibly get better from there, but it seems he has already figured it out. He is scoring 13.4 points per game this season compared to his 8.7 from last season and he is grabbing 1.4 more boards too.
What is allowing him to do this? He is getting about eight more minutes than he was last season and it seems that is all he needed because he is on pace to score over 1,000 points this season — he only had 604 all of last year.
There is more season ahead of the young sophomore, but he has a very good shot at being the most valuable player or at the very least, the most improved from the 2013 draft.
