Well, we have our first injury of the season. And it is a weird one.
The Celtics announced Rajon Rondo had to undergo surgery to repair a broken hand and will be out 6-8 weeks. Meaning he is likely out until just before Thanksgiving.
How did he break his hand? Well, kind of a funny story:
Celtics say Rajon Rondo slipped at his home last night. Surgery was to repair a left metacarpal fracture. Official timetable 6-8 weeks.

As Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory would say, you need some adhesive ducks there Rajon.
This is clearly a pretty big loss for the Celtics. Rondo is the only player on that Boston roster that can make things go (all due respect to Avery Bradley). Much of Boston’s problems in going 25-57 was they simply did not have much offensive punch and did not have a healthy Rondo for most of the season. Rondo played in 30 games and had 11.7 points per game and 9.8 assists per game.
It was not enough to raise questions about whether Rondo was a true franchise player, but it was certainly enough to derail any chance Boston had for wins.
This absence for at least the first month of the season is going to put Boston in the hole again. And Rondo will not have training camp either to get himself ready for another long, hard season.
Life has been tough for him and the Celtics since the breakup of the big three. Maybe that is part of the plan. No one is quite sure if the Celtics will be trying to do more than collect another high draft pick. If that is the case, then they can wait Rondo out again. If not, this is a major wrench into any Playoff hopes.
