Rajon Rondo joins the broadcast booth

During the Celtics’ 94-80 loss to the Bulls in Chicago, Rajon Rondo got the night off.

Well, at least from playing.

The Celtics’ All Star joined the Celtics broadcast booth instead of playing as he got the night off as part of his continuing minutes watch. And that left him leaving the Celtics audience some interesting nuggets about his approach to the game. Including his rivalry with Joakim Noah:

Near the end of his two-quarter stint, Rondo offered great insight into his rivalry with Bulls center Joakim Noah. The two have been facing each other for almost 10 years.

“About two years ago we came to an understanding because we were always going at each other and we didn’t understand why,” said Rondo. “I think it’s because we both love to compete.

One game we were at the free throw line and we were like, ‘Why do we even go at each other?'”

You can read a review of Rondo’s TV debut from Gary Dzen of The Boston Globe.

It also enabled Benny the Bull to have some fun with Rondo using some popcorn.

Benny the Bull shares a snack with Rajon Rondo.

Rondo likely would have preferred be playing. And it is a good thing Rondo has a good assistant producer there telling Benny not to dump the whole bag on Rondo. I am sure Benny did.

Rondo is averaging 11.5 points and 9.5 assists per game in 26 appearances for the Celtics this season.
