Amar’e Stoudemire to the Mavericks

According to SI.com, Amar’e Stoudemire has reached an agreement with the Dallas Mavericks.

Amar’e Stoudemire also reached an agreement with the New York Knicks to buy out the remaining $23.4 million on his contract. After the buyout Stoudemire said he was committed to signing with the Dallas Mavericks.

Stoudemire, 32, averaged 25.3 points per game in his first year as a Knick, but after suffering back and knee injuries, Stoudemire has struggled to get back to his old ways. He has showed promise this year so far averaging 12 points and close to 7 rebounds per game while shooting over 54% from the field.

After trading big man Brandan Wright to the Celtics for point guard Rajon Rondo, the Mavericks have been thin on the frontline. By adding another veteran in Amar’e Stoudemire and remaining the favorite to sign Jermaine O’Neal, the Mavericks look to make another run to the championship.

Amar’e Stoudemire will likely debutin a Mavericks jersey on Thursday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
