Carmelo to officially shut down for the season

Carmelo Anthony is finally going to shut himself down for the rest of the season. There were rumors and talks about him doing it before the All-Star Game, but he felt the need to be “an ambassador for the city” since the All-Star Game was in New York so he played through the pain. Carmelo will have surgery on his left knee and that will take him out for the rest of the season.

The team said the procedure would be performed by Answorth Allen, an orthopedist, and include a left knee patella tendon debridement and repair. Carmelo has said he had soreness in the knee since the team’s second game. The pain forced him to sit out at various points this season. Last month he missed six consecutive games to rest the knee. Often before games he could be seen receiving treatment up until the moments before tip-off.
