Faux Feud: Kevin Love vs. LeBron James

The hottest topic on every sports show the past few days has been Kevin Love and his views on LeBron James. This week Kevin Love appeared on Mike & Mike and when questioned about teammate LeBron James had this to say:

“You know, we’re not best friends, we’re not hanging out every day, but we see each other every day, whether at the practice facility, whether on the road or going to a game. I think our relationship is also evolving. I can say the same with each and every coach, Coach Blatt and each and every player on the team. But that’s part of the NBA.”

ESPN took that as Kevin Love hates LeBron James and wants to leave Cleveland. ESPN received more fuel for this imaginary fire when Love appeared on the Dan Patrick show to pick his MVP for this season. Love picked his former teammate from UCLA, Russell Westbrook. Can you blame him? So what if he didn’t pick his teammate LeBron James to win the MVP? The fans pick the MVP and right now Russell Westbrook’s 10 (or nine if you really believe the NBA taking away some stats) triple doubles in the past month have been a hell of a lot more fun to watch than Cleveland Cavalier basketball.

LeBron James has won the MVP four out of the last six years. Fan fatigue has certainly set in. Just because LeBron doesn’t win the MVP doesn’t mean he really isn’t the most valuable player in the NBA. This year it’s time for someone new, and Russell Westbrook doesn’t make a bad case.

The best part about the whole faux feud between Love and James is that James picked Russell Westbrook to win the MVP this season as well.

James said he and Westbrook were “both having an MVP-type season, but I’m going to go with Russell Westbrook because he’s, every single night you’re looking at his stat sheet, they’re fighting for a playoff spot, with Serge Ibaka going down now, Kevin Durant potentially being out the rest of the year and him still going out there and fighting for his team, and winning, and fighting for that seventh or eighth spot in the playoffs. I think Russ is arguably having the better season.”
