The New York Knicks are in the midst of their worst season in franchise history (currently 5-35) and Phil Jackson is trying to clean house in preparation for next year. He is shopping around Jose Calderon and Andrea Bargnani in hopes to get something back in the form of picks and young players. However, the way both of them have been playing is not any help to getting rid of them via trade. Calderon is only averaging 9.2 points on 40% shooting this season while Bargnani has only played 22 minutes this season due to hamstring and calf injuries. He’s been incredibly unproductive during his tenure as a Knick anyway and he will likely be waived next month unless his contract can help another team in need of an expiring contract. Waiving him would allow the Knicks to have roster space to make D-League call ups.
Even with those moves potentially being made, sources are saying that Amar’e Stoudemire is set to stay put in New York. He really enjoys playing for the team despite its struggles and will likely come back at a discounted price when his contract runs out this summer. He definitely won’t be worth the $23.4 million he’s getting paid this season at 32 years of age so hopefully the Knicks make a sensible move and sign him for considerably less.
