Negotiations between George Karl, Kings draw closer

Remember that time the Kings fired Mike Malone? Yeah, right, it still doesn’t make any sense. How’s Ty Corbin doing as the interim coach in Sacramento? Yeah, umm, not too hot.

The Sacramento Kings are 7-19 in 26 games since firing Malone, a move that ownership made following a series of losses while franchise center Boogie Cousins was out of the lineup dealing with viral meningitis.

With their season all but over, now seven games behind the Oklahoma City Thunder in the loss column — not for the No. 8 seed, but for 10th place — the Kings appear to be moving in on the coach they believe can lead them back to the postseason sometime before Cousins’ contract expires.

Sports Illustrated reports that the Kings have offered George Karl their head coaching position. This after USA Today reported earlier today that the Kings are making “significant progress” on a deal to make Karl their head coach.

Cousins’ agents, Dan Fegan and Jarinn Akana, have reportedly been opposed to Karl’s hiring, although that has been denied publicly, and it appears Kings general manager Pete D’Alessandro is willing to make the move without their consent. Then there is Kings owner Vivek Ranadive, who has proven during his short tenure that when he wants something, he gets it.

Stauskas? Stauskas? Stauskas? Stauskas?

Let’s see if Ranadive gets his man in Karl. More importantly, let’s see how Cousins responds if he does not, in fact, want to play under the former Denver Nuggets head coach.
