Richard Hamilton formally announces retirement

Richard Hamilton, or as you might know him, Rip Hamilton has formally announced his retirement from the NBA after 14 seasons of playing for the Detroit Pistons, Chicago Bulls, and Washington Wizards. He was taken seventh overall in 1999 by the Wizards, but only lasted two seasons with them before his long stint with the Pistons that resulted in his one NBA Championship win in 2004. The former UConn guard announced his decision Thursday during an appearance on ESPN’s “His & Hers” show. Hamilton hadn’t played in the NBA since 2012-13, when he ended an injury-plagued, two-year stint with Chicago. He averaged 17.1 points, 3.4 assists, 34.6 percent from downtown, and 45 percent overall from the field for his career.
