The Golden State Warriors are innovators not only when it comes to their offense, but also when it comes to what they’re wearing. The team announced that they will don a new kind of jersey to celebrate the Chinese New Year in February.

This has never been done before and it’s a nice way to honor both the players of Chinese descent and the people who make up a large portion of the NBA’s viewers as well. The Warriors are also the most popular team on Weibo in China, a social media site, with 1.5 million followers. “The popularity of the NBA is at an all-time high in China,” NBA China CEO David Shoemaker said. “We think fans will want these special-edition jerseys as another way to connect with their favorite teams, and we will look closely at doing more special retail items like this in the future.” It’s nice to see the NBA making even more strides globally, especially in a market that the other major sports don’t really utilize.
