LeBron vs. Jordan vs. Kobe. That is the hot debate these days. When one “historical” player gives their input, every reporter, journalist and media personality in the country is going to ask the rest of the NBA’s greatest players what they think. Sometimes they do not even have to be asked, they just volunteer their point of view.
Larry Bird was on the Dan Patrick show earlier this week. In Patrick’s defense, he did not straight up ask Bird to compare LeBron James and Michael Jordan, he just asked if Bird thought LeBron had a “killer instinct,” but Larry Legend took the bait anyways.
“Everybody is a little different, but I will tell you what? That LeBron James is about as good as I’ve ever seen. I mean this guy is unbelievable. I’m not going to say he’s a Michael Jordan and all that, but he ain’t too far behind. He ain’t too far behind Kobe either. He just hasn’t made some plays down the stretch and he will. He will win multiple championships before he’s out of this league. You can’t be as good as him and not win.”
Well it is a lock. Everyone place your bets on the Heat to win a championship. It has been guaranteed (at least in the next 10 years).
I, like many other people, am on the side of this debate that involves not debating. You cannot compare two players from two different eras, it is just not possible. The only comparisons in the NBA should have the words “right now” after them. As in, LeBron James is playing better than Kobe Bryant right now. Or you can even compare the same player or team from year to year. As in, LeBron James is playing better than he did at this time last year.
But any arguments about Jordan vs. LeBron are just silly. Sure they may make for a lively dinner argument, but there will never be any way to prove anything one way or the other. Each side will always have their valid points and each side will always think they are right. I wish we could all just put this argument to rest, but as Larry Bird has shown us, people will always want their opinions to be known.
