Our series on the four jerseys fans of every NBA team continues today. It’s Central Division week, and today we’re focusing on the Chicago Bulls. Remember, we’re not just going to list off four popular players in team history. We know that when you’re wearing a jersey, you’re going for a “look.” So every day we’re going to tell you the jersey you’ve got to have, the jersey you can’t go wrong with (in case you can’t find the first one), the jersey that will make people say “Oh, that’s awesome,” and the joke jersey that will have everyone laughing.
I’m not gonna lie here, those Raptors jerseys were difficult. Some teams just don’t present obvious options. But some teams do. And Chicago is one of those teams. The Bulls have a combination of a tradition and history, but really workable list of stars from which to choose when putting your Bulls-fan wardrobe together.
You Gotta Have:
Michael Jordan — The G.O.A.T. What more is there to say? When the best ever wore your team’s laundry, you gotta own his. Unless you’re some hipster who wants to go against the grain, you’d better own the #23. Bonus points for owning both the #23 and the #45 he wore briefly when he first returned from baseball.
You Can’t Go Wrong With:
Scottie Pippen — The G.O.A.T’s sidekick. He’s one of the best “second option” guys in history. The Bulls dynasty was all about Jordan and Pippen. Even as other role players changed and guys like Luc Longley came in for guys like Bill Cartright, it didn’t really matter much as long as Jordan and Pippen were there (also some dead-eye shooter no one quite remembers was there to hit the open shot when Jordan and Pippen were smothered). No one is going to question you as you stroll down Magnificent Mile in your white-and-red #33 gear.
“Oh, That’s Awesome”:
Jerry Sloan — From 1966-67 to 75-76, Jerry Sloan was a swing man for the Bulls. And he was no slouch, either. He finished his career with averages of 14 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. In his best season, he averaged 18.3 and 8.8. Today he’s obviously more associated with the Utah Jazz, but back when he we was young and spry, he was wearing that #4 for Chicago. Rock this thing out on the town and you might even educate a few of the younger Bulls fans.
“Oh, That’s Funny”:
Will Purdue — Oh wait, I’m sorry, I meant to say “FOUR TIME N-B-A CHAMPION WILL PERDUE!!”. He won thrice with the Bulls and once with the Spurs. Yeah, that’s right. This guy has four championship rings. If I were to walk by Will Perdue on the street, I’d say “man, it’s a shame a guy his size isn’t playing basketball.” And I guess that’s what makes it funny. Because really, if you’re going to run through one of the Bulls’ three-peats and pick a jersey, this is the goofiest one you can pick. There’s no doubt Perdue’s #32 will get you a reaction.
There you have it. The four jerseys Bulls fans have got to have. Disagree with us? Let us know who we missed in the comments.
