I was a little skeptical when Kevin Durant announced he was doing an internet show that followed him around to give fans an inside took at his life. I was, and still sort of am, concerned that opening up to the fans would also open Durant up to some unfair scrutiny that would leave a bitter taste in his mouth.
But if the show continues to be anything like the first episode, then I’ll gladly admit that I might have been a little too worried about nothing.
The first episode takes us behind the scenes of “Capital Punishment”, better known as the showdown between the Drew and Goodman leagues. It just follows KD and his boys throughout the day, starting with some video games, then the drive to the game, highlights from the game itself, and ending with some Madden football at night. Two things stood out to me:
First, Durant relays a story about getting from New York to Washington, DC after his whirlwind tour of NYC’s hallowed streetball grounds. He says he had no plane or train tickets, and instead of just buying one, he and his boys paid $7 each to take the Megabus back to DC.
Second, I love Durant’s own signature line of backpacks. Seriously, is that not the best thing you’ve ever seen?
So instead of opening himself up to any more criticism, Durant has only enhanced his image. Everything in that video just makes him more likable. I’m looking forward to episode 2.
