If ever there was a time for Reebok’s Pump Division to enter the competitive world of Men’s Dress Shoes, that moment has arrived.
After earning legendary status in the eternal history of NBA dunk contests for his Pumps inspired win in 1991, Dee Brown is back on NBA sidelines in desperate need of some supportively fly kicks to complement his Armani’s. I was kinda thinking Reebok could really capitalize by putting Dee in a pair of American Plain Toe Oxford type shoes featuring their trademark Pump ball on the tongue, but I’ll leave those details to the experts.
What’s important for the moment is that Dee Brown is back in the Association, and we have Lawrence Frank to thank for that decision. The Pistons recently announced that Frank has hired both Dee Brown and Roy Rogers to round out his coaching staff in Detroit, and if nothing else I expect Rodney Stuckey to place in next season’s Dunk Contest as a result.
This from The Detroit News.com:
“Former NBA players Dee Brown and Roy Rogers will sit to Frank’s side whenever next season starts, a source confirmed to The Detroit News.
Brown, 42, was most recently the head coach and general manager of the Springfield (Mass.) Armor in the NBA Developmental League (NBDL). Brown also coached the WNBA’s Orlando Miracle and San Antonio Silver Stars. He’s more known for his exploits during the 1991 Slam Dunk Contest, where he won it with his famous no-look dunk.
Brown played 12 seasons in the NBA, primarily as a member of the Boston Celtics. In his rookie season he was a starter on the Celtics team that lost to the Pistons in the 1991 Eastern Conference semifinals, the last series win of the Bad Boys.
Rogers, 38, played four seasons in the NBA in the late 1990s and most recently was on Doc Rivers’ staff in Boston as an assistant alongside Frank. Rogers was also an assistant and scout in New Jersey.”
In all seriousness though, shouts out to Dee Brown for grinding through the minor league circuits on his way to earning this gig too. NBDL, WNBA, and so on is a long way from the worldwide frenzy he created with that no-look slam. Wait, what? Worldwide frenzy is too much? I believe the video evidence below would disagree:
