Joel Embiid looks fine in latest workout video

It is just a workout. It is not five-on-five or full contact.

But the big question entering the NBA Draft among the consensus top-3 candidates is whether Joel Embiid’s back will hold up. Watching the above video from SLAM, it sure looks like Embiid can move well and take some bumps to that back.

Embiid could very well be Cleveland’s pick with the top overall selection, or he could fall anywhere in the top four. He is largely considered to be one of the top three players in this Draft. A young center with little basketball experience, he showed great instincts defensively and took to offense pretty quickly in his lone year in Kansas. He even overshadowed Andrew Wiggins.

NBA teams will want to take a closer look at his back injury though and make sure he is healthy.

Every single Blake Griffin dunk for you to enjoy

The Clippers 2013-14 season is over but it doesn’t mean forward Blake Griffin left fans with some memorable dunks… as usual.

From rim-rocking alley-oop dunks, driving to the lane dunks to everyone’s favorite posterizations of (insert NBA player’s name here) dunks, Griffin once again made all NBA fans get out of their seats and just admire his handy work.

TMZ: Donald Sterling gives up control of team

TMZ has been at the front of the Donald Sterling story the entire time, so we take this report with a little less grains of salt than we usually would with a TMZ report.

TMZ, citing sources close to the Sterling family, reports Donald Sterling has given up control of the Clippers to his wife, Shelley, and that she is negotiating with the NBA to allow her to sell the team on her terms rather than through a forced sale:

Our sources say Shelly and her lawyer, Pierce O’Donnell, have been secretly meeting with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and NBA lawyers to “resolve the dispute amicably.”    We’re told Shelly realizes the NBA wants the team sold, but she has significantly more leverage and credibility with the league than Donald.  Her end game is simple — she won’t object to the sale, but SHE wants to call the shots.

Obviously this would be a quiet, more amicable end to this ugly saga. It would accomplish what the NBA eventually wants: a new owner with the Clippers. It would have the added bonus of bypassing costly litigation.

Here is hoping this is the last we hear of Donald Sterling for a long, long, long time.

Mark Cuban speaks honestly about racism, prejudice

The Donald Sterling mess has opened up a lot of wounds and led to some frank discussions about race and race relations. What Sterling said on that tape recording struck a nerve with the NBA community and the response and backlash against him was universal. Everyone wanted and received swift action to kick Sterling out […]

What is Charles Barkley’s deal with San Antonio?

Charles Barkley was at it again Wednesday night during Inside the NBA.

With Danny Green on the air for a postgame interview, Barkley told it like it is and told San Antonio fans how he really feels. He hates them too.

It has been a running joke that Barkley thinks women in San Antonio are not the most attractive. But this is something that has been running now for several years. What is Barkley’s deal with San Antonio?

Without Ibaka, the Thunder need to adapt

Down two games to none in their Western Conference Finals against the San Antonio Spurs, the Oklahoma City Thunder are really struggling without their third-best player, Serge Ibaka, who is out with a leg injury. The Spurs took the first two games of the series in San Antonio, winning by 17 and 35 points respectively […]

Easy Spurs it

Could this get any easier for San Antonio?

The Thunder put up a good fight, but their defensive shortcomings, particularly in the paint led to another 30-point blowout. The Spurs just seem to bide their time and wear down their Western Conference Finals opponent. At least int he comforts of the AT&T Center.

San Antonio posted 54 point sin the paint in an easy 112-77 win over Oklahoma City. Again, it was a five-point game with about two minutes left in the first half. The Spurs opened things up with a quick run before the half to lead by 12. It was never close after that. Not even close.

Tony Parker scored 22 points. Danny Green had 21. Tim Duncan had 14.

Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook could not match this time. They each had 15 points. And the Thunder gave in to panic and took quick shots to try to get back in. That only played into San Antonio’s hands.

And that is how you get a rout.

Back to the drawing board for Game Three.

KG’s influence spreads to Mason Plumlee

Monday, Kevin Garnett celebrated his 38th birthday. Unbelievably, Garnett entered the league as a rail-thing 18-year-old who was trying to avoid center designation by jokingly saying he was 6-foot-12. The past 19 season have been a joy to watch as Garnett revolutionized the NBA with his ability to step out and hit jumpers and take […]

Pacers’ Paul George diagnosed with concussion

George reported he blacked out after Dwyane Wade accidentally kneed him in the head diving for a loose ball. He played the rest of the game. The NBA reports the Pacers followed all concussion protocols.

George’s status for Saturday’s Game Three is certainly in doubt. George would have to pass several key physical benchmarks to be cleared to play — and he MUST pass each physical benchmark in turn compared to his baseline from the beginning of the season.

This would obviously be a huge blow to the Pacers if he is unavailable.

Duncan’s girlfriend fires back at Charles Barkley

By now you should know exactly how TNT’s Charles Barkley feels about the women of San Antonio. But in case you don’t know, let’s just say he thinks they are overweight and is not going to apologize about his remarks anytime soon.

So of course with the Western Conference Finals in San Antonio, the female population of the Alamo City struck back at Charles and leading the way was none other than Spurs’ Tim Duncan’s girlfriend – Vanessa Macias.

Wearing a T-Shirt saying “Barkley Don’t Know,” Macias was on camera looking upset at Barkley while pointing the finger at him in shame.

Climbing With Confidence: The Road Ahead For The Pacers

The Indiana Pacers are climbing the Mount Everest of the NBA. The first several thousand feet in Game 1 were easy, but as soon as the ascent became more challenging, the surrounding atmosphere unleashed the indiscriminating fury of Mother Nature. Some winds picked up and blew right in the faces of the Pacers, blurring David […]

Heat fight back to even series

It does not have to be pretty. Wins can be extremely ugly.

So after the Pacers won by quickening the pace it makes the Heat would even the series by slowing things down. Huh?

The Pacers and Heat played each other within 20 points the entire game. No team took more than an eight-point lead into the fourth quarter. LeBron James took over the fourth quarter in a subtle but obvious way. I guess that is really contradictory. This game was full of those.

James finished with 22 points, seven rebounds and six assists, doing a lot of work in the fourth quarter to lead Miami to an 87-83 win in Indiana and a tie in the Eastern Conference Finals. Dwyane Wade did a lot of the heavy lifting offensively with 23 points. It was the Heat’s defense that was the difference this time around as they started flying around and pressuring the Pacers with an urgency that was missing in Game One.

It was not all there though. Miami had to fight to get back into this game and tie the series.

All five Pacers starters scored in double figures with Lance Stephenson scoring 25 points to lead the way. Stephenson was aggressive and took advantage of the moments when the Heat’s defense was lax — including a tip in with 0.1 seconds left to beat the halftime buzzer.

Miami will have to find a way to keep their energy up. That was the big message as the team leaves Indiana. The Pacers are here to play. Miami has to be ready to match them.

Bucks owner’s daughter real star of Draft Lottery

Without Nick Gilbert hollering and hooting as the Cavaliers walked away with another Lottery victory, the NBA Draft Lottery needed a star. We are still meeting the Edens, the new owners of the Milwaukee Bucks. And meet their appointed Draft representative, Bucks owner Wesley Edens’ daughter Mallory. She did bring some modicum of luck to […]

Cavs win NBA Draft Lottery

Unbelievable right? The Cavaliers had a 1.7 percent chance of winning the lottery and did it. Not only that, they did it for the third time in four years. Move over Kyrie Irving and Anthony Bennett.

Of course, at some point, you have to put all that talent together and earn some wins.

Here is the rest of the Draft Lottery order:

If Pacers win tonight, this series will be theirs to win

After squeaking by the No. 8 seed Atlanta Hawks in the first round and shakily dispatching the No. 5 seed Washington Wizards in the second round, the Eastern Conference’s top-seeded Indiana Pacers are up against the back-to-back defending champion Miami Heat. And you know what, after just one game they are playing pretty darn well […]
